It was summer 2009, and the high school math teacher and competitive eater had driven eight hours from upstate New York to test his mettle at the Harrod Pork Rind Heritage Festival, the Rose Bowl of northwestern Ohio pork rind eating contests. In less varnished terms, Reeves wanted to see how many pork rinds he could shove down his throat in eight minutes—in front of 1,000 onlookers.

A local company wants to combine Americas love for football with the love of certain snack foods in an effort to support wounded veterans.

Dallas’ Southern Recipe Sends Truckloads of Pork Rinds to Alabama Tornado Victims


The Dallas Observer – June 17th, 2011 -
Dallas-based Southern Recipe, the world’s largest manufacturer of pork rinds, has donated $10,000 of their pork rinds to The Today Show’s Lend a Hand Tour benefiting tornado victims in Birmingham, Alabama.

We’re not sure if the first thought on the Alabamans’ minds was, “What I wouldn’t give for some pork rinds right now.” But it’s the thought that counts, right? And c’mon– the sight of a giant truck full of thousands of bags of pork rinds had to have been pretty great.

Today Show to Feature Local Manufacturer

The Today Show will feature a Lima food manufacturer making a huge donation Thursday. The Today Show’s Lend a Hand tour will stop in Birmingham, Alabama in the morning, where Rudolph Roods Company will be sending a truckload of pork rinds.

Pork Rind Festival Returns to Harrod

The 22nd annual Pork Rind Heritage Festival will take place in Harrod on June 10 and 11. Several events are returning to this year’s agenda, including the 1K fun run, 5K run/walk, Friday night cruise in, chili cook-off, loads of games to play, live entertainment, and plenty of pork rinds to eat.

Low Carb Dieters Find High Protein Lower Fat Snacks In Pork Rinds

There is a lot of controversy about which of the diet methods is better, low carb, low fat or in between, with many health care professionals maintaining that balance is the key. I tend to agree with the “in between”, with a little leaning towards the lower carb side of things, especially when it comes to eating processed carbohydrates.
